Listen up girls with combi/dry skin type… I have a HG light weight foundation to review today that you will WANT to grab during your next Sephora visit.
I purchased this because I realized that I’ve never owned a liquid foundation – ever, and I really wanted to try one. The reason why I’ve never dared to purchase a liquid foundation is because I don’t particular like an extreme full face cover and also I personally feel that liquid could possibly clog up pores easily. I decided to get the BareMinerals Complexion Control Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream because the Sephora specialist recommended it to me based on my sensitive and combi/dry skin type.
I have been wearing it everyday since I got it and its just AH-MAZING. However, I thought I’d share a post on how to wear it RIGHT because I had to go through a couple of trial and error processes before I figured out the simplest way to pull it off on an everyday basis.
Basically, you will need to opt for an opaque and non-glossy concealer underneath the BareMinerals Complexion Control. This is because this cream provides light coverage – which while is sufficient to blur out most skin imperfections, is not able to cover dark eye circles such as mine.
When I first realized the need for a concealer, I tried using my YSL Touche Eclat as a concealer and this was what happened…
What I realized was this – because the formula of the BareMinerals Complexion Control is designed to give you a dewy finish, the concealer you use cannot be of a dewy texture too as it would be too oily and result in a sheer finish under your eye which you obviously do not want since you would want to conceal your dark circles. This is where the need for an opaque and super matte finish concealer comes in – which my sister happened to purchase recently, the DiorSkin Star concealer. I love this concealer so much because when paired with the BareMinerals Complexion Control, the result is truly flawless. The only bad thing I can say about this concealer is that it is bloody expensive so I will have to wait for payday to purchase this baby.
As you can see from the above picture, the DiorSkin Star concealer really does mean business… its heavily pigmented and hands down the best concealer I’ve ever tried (yes, even better than my Shu Uemura concealer). It actually stayed put on my face for more than 10 hours. Wowza. Now that’s a first for a concealer.
Below is how the BareMinerals Complexion Control Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream looks like. I got mine in Ginger as recommended by the Sephora Specialist.
I have always been a matte finish face kinda girl only because I never really could get the dewy look right after multiple failed efforts with overhyped bb creams that basically sucked for me. Now since I have figured out how to do it right, I love opting for a dewy face for a change every now and then! Just makes you look so much fresher.
I feel that the BareMinerals CC and the DiorSkin Star concealer goes well perfectly. This is how they look when applied together (picture taken from my previous Too Faced eyeshadow review). I used literally a tiny dot at my undereye area and the coverage was already almost perfect. I could have applied more for a more heavy coverage but I don’t like that so yeah. See how my skin is glowing thanks to the Complexion Control cream! *swoons*
BareMinerals Complexion Control Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream
♥ Nice dewy and effortless finish
♥ Requires only a pea-sized amount
♥ Coverage is buildable, you can wait for the first layer to dry then apply another layer for a non-cakey effect
♥ Great for sensitive skin, will not lead to breakouts
✘ This is great for dry/combi skin. But after about 6-8 hours, your oily patches will start to shine like a metal pan. This is when you’re gonna NEED to touch up with some finishing powder or oil blots at those specific areas. This product is definitely a no-no for oily skin types.
DiorSkin Star Concealer
♥ Almost perfect coverage
♥ Stays put for hours and hours and hours
♥ Blends really well
♥ Its so matte that it really doesn’t look like you’re wearing any concealer at all
✘ Will cost you an arm and a leg
